The Fettle approach
To fettle something is to put it into good condition. For us, that starts with understanding the job — and continues through the choices, explanations and details around it.
A clear explanation is more useful than false reassurance. In Updater, an incomplete check stays incomplete. A successful installer and a verified version are different facts.
We want that same honesty in how we describe the product. The current release is a testing preview, with its limitations published alongside it.
Useful defaults should not quietly become permission. Updater keeps background checks optional and checks saved preferences before waiting updates begin.
Choices deserve clear consequences, whether you’re installing an update, postponing it or leaving an app alone.
Care is a readable result, a preference that is respected, a next step that makes sense. It is also knowing when a tool cannot help and saying so.
Updater uses native Windows controls. This website uses ordinary links and pages. The right design fits the place you use it.
Fettle is independent. Updater’s source and MIT licence let you inspect the work and build on it. Its preferences and history are stored locally, with no Fettle account required.
We favour understandable tools and documented behaviour. Longevity is a responsibility to work towards, not a lifetime-support promise.
Inspect Fettle UpdaterThis site has no analytics, advertising trackers, cookies or third-party embeds. Fonts and brand assets are served with the site. If you choose an appearance, only that preference is saved in your browser’s local storage.
Cloudflare hosts the site and processes ordinary request information to deliver and protect it. Following a GitHub link takes you to GitHub, which has its own privacy practices.
